Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India and is often abbreviated to, for the convenience of people, as the A&N Islands. It has its location in the midst of the Indian Ocean, especially in the southern reaches of the Bay of Bengal, near the countries of Indonesia and Thailand. In general there are two types of island groups, namely, the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands, that are instrumental in seperating the Andaman Sea to the east from the Indian Ocean. However, both of these are seen to be separated by the 10° N parallel, the Andamans lying to the north of this latitude, and the Nicobars to the south. There are over 570 islands in the territory of which only 38 are inhabited in the permanente manner. The maximum number of isalnds, 550, are in the Andamans group. The remnant are the smaller Nicobar islands where 22 are the main islands, and 10 of them are inhabited.
The capital of this territory is the Andamanese town of Port Blair. The major languages that are spoken in the region in numerical order includes Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Nicobarese and Telugu. Other most common languages are Malayalam and English.
